Product History - The Developers Story
Early to mid 2001 a large private radiology practice happened to be in the market for a document imaging solution. They reviewed software from several leading vendors and soon realized that the benefits of implementing such a system would offer huge productivity gains as well as a rapid ROI.
Research and vendor demonstrations continued and the group finally began to receive selected vendor quotes for document imaging solutions. Surprised by the inflated numbers on the quotes, "I believe this would be called Sticker Shock", their own in-house developer recognized an opportunity and wasted no time to prepare a proposal and development strategy for an in-house solution. After his initial presentation was made, the proposal was quickly adopted by the group and development commenced.
In knowing the business as well as he did, the developer concentrated on the product features that would provide the basic and necessary functions required to implement such a system. All the late nights and long weekends finally paid off and in late 2001 just before year-end, version one of his document imaging system was released under the name
WR-DocImage. The new year rolled around and timing couldn't have been more perfect and the release was a huge success within the practice.
A couple of years passed and the product gained valuable enhancements. During that time the developer had anticipated company support in efforts to make the product a value added service offering as well. He knew the potential of the product and even had occasional discussions within the group about the potential for product offerings. More time passed and I guess he soon realized that the company was not in the software business and had no intentions of making this a valued added offering.
The developer was convinced that this product could be a valuable contender in the document imaging market and that he could save businesses thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars. He wasted no time to set his goals and to develop a business plan. Everything was coming together with the exception of one yet crucial detail. The product that he originally created was in joint efforts with the radiology practice that he worked for. How could he become sole owner of the product with no strings attached. He knew the only way to resolve this issue was to rewrite the application.
In early to mid 2004 he pulled his resources together, reached deep inside for that extra burst of energy and expressed his talents in ways he never had before. Long nights and weekends passed once again and soon that light at the end of the tunnel was brighter than he had ever seen it.
Whala - a new product was developed that not only leveraged the knowledge of an already successful development but also offers many new features than prior developments could ever hope for.
SNAPSHOT was the products new name and the radiology group even deployed it within their own practice. Under a different set of guidelines of course.
